Samsung is one of the leading manufacturers of smartphones. They are also developing their own processors for mobile devices. Samsung typically manufactures different versions of their smartphones that utilize other processors to take advantage of regional nuances, such as the US version typically has a Snapdragon processor.
In a recent teaser, Samsung said that they will soon introduce the Exynos 2200 in the near future. In a recent post, they will do this at the upcoming January 11 event. This is an exciting move as it shows that Samsung no longer has the monopoly on both the CPU and GPU segments of the market.
It’s been almost two years since Samsung announced that They have teamed up with PC giant AMD to develop a GPU that will be used in the Exynos chipset to address power and thermal management issues. Recently, a rumor from Korea has revealed that the next Exynos will come with Radeon GPUs and can be used on both smartphones and computers.
The Korea Economic Daily, a media from South Korea. It was reported that Samsung is preparing to launch a chipset for use in computers. That can be used on smartphones and tablets. The chip is expected to be named Exynos 2200, a sequel to Exynos 2100, Samsung’s current flagship chip. It is likely that Samsung intends to play the role of Exynos 2200 as a worthy rival to the Apple M1.
The Exynos 2200 will be manufactured by Samsung on a 5nm architecture, which sources revealed that the Exynos 2200 will focus on performance and good power management. This will make them the second brand after Qualcomm when they launch computers based on ARM chips, and such computers may come with 5G capabilities.
Samsung’s Exynos 2200 will be a processor that will have a 64-bit architecture. It is expected to have a four-core design and is designed for use in mobile devices such as smartphones and tablet computers.
The most exciting thing about this SoC is that the GPU used is a GPU specially developed by AMD. They use the RDNA2 architecture, the RDNA2, which can handle the latest games. The RDNA2 architecture is known to be present in the newest generation of GPUs and the latest generation of consoles such as the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
However, even though it has the same architecture as the latest generation GPU or console, it doesn’t mean this SoC will have the same performance as a PC or game console. This can make this SoC compete with various other flagship SoCs like Snapdragon 835 or Apple’s A11 Bionic.
Reporting from The Verge (2/1), Exynos 2200 is likely to be present in some of their flagship smartphones in 2022. Some of the smartphones that are expected to use this SoC include the Galaxy S22 and S22 Ultra, which were unveiled by Samsung at Mobile World Congress Shanghai.
However, this does not mean that Samsung will use this SoC in all their smartphones. One example is the version for the US; they are expected to use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset.
Unfortunately, Samsung has not provided any technical information about the SoC for the time being. So we have to wait until January 11 to find out more details about the Exynos 2200.
We’ll have to wait and see if Samsung launches the Exynos 2200 to compete with the Apple M1. Will it be able to design a chip with the same strength and power management as the chip from the American company? Because from the experience of using the MacBook Pro, the M1 has to be said that it is both powerful and really saves battery.
